Paldiski is a town and Baltic Sea port situated on the Pakri Peninsula of northwestern Estonia. Paldiski was founded by Swedes in the 14th century as Rågervik, it was transformed into a Russian naval base in the 18th century. The remnants of Peter the Great's naval fortress, Bastion of Peter the Great, stand as a testament to this era. The Pakri Islands, Väike-Pakri and Suur-Pakri, lie just off the coast of Paldiski. These islands are known for their natural beauty, hiking trails, and birdwatching opportunities.
