While technically a separate town, Heiligendamm is closely associated with Bad Doberan due to their proximity and shared history. Thought to be the oldest seaside resort in Germany, Heiligendamm's elegant white villas and luxurious hotels have earned it the nickname 'The White Town by the Sea'. Bad Doberan is connected to Heiligendamm (and Kühlungsborn) by the Molli Steam Railway, narrow-gauge railway that has been operating since 1886.
