La Spezia is an Italian port city located in Liguria, on the Gulf of La Spezia. It's a beautiful and historic town with a natural harbor, a charming historic center, and easy access to the stunning Cinque Terre villages. La Spezia is the main gateway town to the Cinque Terre, a string of five picturesque villages that cling to the cliffs along the Italian Riviera. La Spezia has a historic castle, Saint George's Castle, which is located on a hill overlooking the city. The castle now houses the Civic Archaeological Museum, which has exhibits on the history of the area.

The Ligurian coast between Cinque Terre and Portovenere is a cultural landscape of great scenic and cultural value. The layout and disposition of the small towns and the shaping of the surrounding landscape, overcoming the disadvantages of a steep, uneven terrain, encapsulate the continuous history of human settlement in this region over the past millennium.
