Saverne is situated on the Rhine-Marne canal at the foot of a pass over the Vosges Mountains, and 45 km northwest of Strasbourg. It is probably best known for the grand 18th-century Chateau des Rohans with its formal gardens, as well as being a base from which to explore the Vosges mountains and surrounding region.
