Valenciennes

Valenciennes is a commune in the Nord department, Hauts-de-France. It lies on the Scheldt river. It was the sight of a dramatic battle in World War 1. Its impressive museum of fine art ranges from Gallo-Roman achieology to the twentieth century, including a noteworthy colllection of Flemish paintings (Rubens, Jordaens, Van Dyck). Valenciennes
